Quote Corner #10: Kill the Boy Band

Good morning and happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying your day so far!
Today I am sharing some of my favourite quotes from one of my all-time favourite books, Kill the Boy Band.
Happy reading! 😉

The joy you find as a teen, however frivolous and dumb, is pure and meaningful. It doesn’t matter that it might ferment and taste different when you’re older.

“[He] was a living wonder. He lived and we all wondered how he did it. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. May he juggle with Jesus.”

I am so done. I cannot. I have lost the ability to can.

Did I love them because they were the only boys in my life who consistently told me that I was beautiful? Probably. I loved The Ruperts for who they were, sure, but I mostly loved them for how they made me feel. Which was happy. The Ruperts made me happy. The simplest thing to be in the world. And the hardest.

Maybe it was obsession, but it was also happiness; an escape from the suckiness of everyday life. And when you find something that makes you happy and giddy and excited every day, us fangirls know a truth that everyone else seems to have forgotten: you hold on to that joy tenaciously, for as long as you can..

“I wasn’t just going to leave because Orange unceremoniously kicked me out.”
“Apple.”
“No, thank you. I’m not hungry.”

“Happiness isn’t always easy,” he’d said. “But it’s a priority.”

I was holding someone captive and all that was going through my mind was a Billboard Top 40 love song. I was going to hell.

Isabel’s infamous tweets ranged from the cartoonish and impossible:
Im going to pull ur tongue out of ur mouth wrap it around ur neck n strangle u w it so hard ur eyes will pop out. i will pee in the sockets.
To the quaint:
Get ur fcking hands off him bitch i will cut u. #RupertLIsMine
To the cryptically disturbing:
I watch u in your sleep.
I would never condone Isabel’s scary tweets, but you had to give the girl credit for managing to stay under 140 characters every time.

This book is by far the most wild, hilarious and entertaining story that I’ve ever had the absolute pleasure of reading about. It’s very unique and creative and I don’ think I’ve ever before had this much fun reading something. I’ve read this book twice: once as a physical copy and again in the form of an audio-book. I had the time of my life both times and would highly recommend reading this in either format.
If you’re a fan of dark humour, I would HIGHLY recommend giving this book a try. This is also a fantastic story to pic up if you are a fangirl (or fanboy) of anything because you will probably find many elements of the story to be very relatable – I know that I sure did!!

Easter Time Book Tag

Good morning and happy Easter to those who celebrate! I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend filed with love despite these unfortunate circumstances. ❤
To thought it would be really fun to do a festive little book tag and I settled on this one. I hope you enjoy!! 😉

Rules:

  • Answer the prompts.
  • Tag some friends.
  • Link back to this post, and be sure to mention the creator (Theresa @ The Calico Books)
  • Have fun!

Ah, there are so, so many books I could talk about for this one!
I’m going to say Kill The Boy Band, which I see people in the book community talk about occasionally, but not nearly enough. It is a fun, hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining read that it relatable (on some levels) for any fangirl. I also recently reread this book via audio book and it was absolutely fantastic. The narrator did such a great performance, she honestly deserved an Oscar, so if you’re interested in picking this one up (which you definitely should), the physical and audio book are both wonderful options!

Not After Everything by Michelle Levy is one of my all-time favourite books. This is the first, and so far, the only book that she has had published. I really, really hope that it isn’t her last. This novel was an incredible and super underrated debut, and I would love to see what else Michelle Levy could come up with!!

For this, I have to go with the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout! This series is one of my all-time favourites and I never wanted it to end – I could read 800 books about Katy and Daemon. Unfortunately, I only got five. 😦
Thankfully, JLA did create a spin-ff series about Luc, which I was so excited about that I literally cried when I heard the news. However, I didn’t end up loving the first book as much as I anticipated and I still haven’t continued on with the series, but I plan on giving the first book another go and reading the sequel very soon!

Obsidian (Lux #1)
Onyx (Lux #2)
Opal (Lux #3)
Origin (Lux #4)
Opposition (Lux #5)

Well, considering the fact that I genuinely cannot remember the last time that I purchased a book at full price, I’ve bought the vast majority of my books for super cheap – most of them were less than $5! However, a cheap book that I felt like I got the best deal on was my copy of We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I found a gorgeous signed, deluxe/collector’s edition of the book at Indigo for only $3.33!! I’ve still yet to read the book, but I’m amazed by the incredible price, especially because it was signed by the author!

I thought that the anthology Meet Cute: Some People are Destined to Meet was super sweet! While I can’t necessarily say that I loved every story in here, many of them were absolutely adorable and sweeter than sugar!

33503607You can see my review of Meet Cute here.

There are so many books that I could pick for this one, but I’m going to go with The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I read this book at a time in my life when I really, really need it. I related to Charlie on such a strong level is honestly scared me at times. I have reread the book several times, but it leaves an imprint every single time.

22628

For this prompt I have to go with one of my favourite series ever, The Mara Dyer series! This series is filled with so many thrilling twists and shocking turns that it made my head spin, but in the very best way possible!
I recommend these books all the time! If you’re a fan of YA mystery/thriller, paranormal romances, please do yourself a favor and read this series ASAP!!

You can see my review of the third book in the series, The Retribution of Mara Dyer, here.

I’m not going to tag anybody specific, but if you do decide to join in on the fun, let me know so I can check out your answers!

Stay safe and healthy, and have a great day! 🙂
HAPPY EASTER!! ❤

Review: Kill The Boy Band

Kill The Boy Band by Goldy Moldovsky
Genre: Young Adult – Contemporary, Romance
Pages: 320
Publication Date: February 2016
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars
Read May 2016

Goodreads Synopsis:
Just know from the start that it wasn’t supposed to go like this. All we wanted was to get near them. That’s why we got a room in the hotel where they were staying.
We were not planning to kidnap one of them. Especially not the most useless one. But we had him—his room key, his cell phone, and his secrets.
We were not planning on what happened next.
We swear.
From thrilling new talent Goldy Moldavsky comes a pitch-black, hilarious take on fandom and the badass girls who have the power to make—or break—the people we call “celebrities.”
