Review: Pumpkinheads

Good morning! I hope you’re all doing well. ❤
Today I’m here with a review of Pumpkinheads, a graphic novel that was a highly anticipated read for me! I read this at the beginning of May, but as a big fan of Halloween and autumn, I very much enjoyed the cozy fall atmosphere of this story.
Happy reading!

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks
Genre: Young Adult – Graphic Novel, Contemporary, Romance
Pages: 209
Publication Date: August 2019
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
Read May 2021

Goodreads Synopsis:
Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.
Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?

Review: Sheets

Hello, hello! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day!
This morning I’m here with a review of a quick graphic novel that I recently read, Sheets! I heard a lot of positive things about this book, and while I did enjoy it, it did not quite live up to my expectations.
Happy reading! 😉

Series: Sheets #1
Pages: 239
Publication Date: August 2018
My Rating: 2.5 of 5 stars
Read March 2021

Goodreads Synopsis:
Marjorie Glatt feels like a ghost. A practical thirteen year old in charge of the family laundry business, her daily routine features unforgiving customers, unbearable P.E. classes, and the fastidious Mr. Saubertuck who is committed to destroying everything she’s worked for.
Wendell is a ghost. A boy who lost his life much too young, his daily routine features ineffective death therapy, a sheet-dependent identity, and a dangerous need to seek purpose in the forbidden human world.
When their worlds collide, Marjorie is confronted by unexplainable disasters as Wendell transforms Glatt’s Laundry into his midnight playground, appearing as a mere sheet during the day. While Wendell attempts to create a new afterlife for himself, he unknowingly sabotages the life that Marjorie is struggling to maintain.

Review: Mooncakes

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I hope you all have a fun, spooktacular and safe day!
Today I’m sharing my review of Mooncakes, a YA graphic novel that I heard was perfect for the Halloween season! It had some good qualities, but I was pretty underwhelmed.
I hope you enjoy!

One fateful night, she follows reports of a white wolf into the woods, and she comes across the unexpected: her childhood crush, Tam Lang, battling a horse demon in the woods. As a werewolf, Tam has been wandering from place to place for years, unable to call any town home.
Pursued by dark forces eager to claim the magic of wolves and out of options, Tam turns to Nova for help. Their latent feelings are rekindled against the backdrop of witchcraft, untested magic, occult rituals, and family ties both new and old in this enchanting tale of self-discovery.

Hello, hello, my lovely readers! I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy! 🙂
This morning I’m here with a review of the graphic novel adaptation of The Lightning Thief, which was terribly disappointing. 😦
Happy reading!!

The Lightning Thief: The Graphic Novel by Rick Riordan, Robert Venditti, José Villarrubia, Attila Futaki
Genre: Middle Grade – Graphic Novel, Fantasy, Mythology
Series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Graphic Novels #1
Pages: 135
Publication Date: October 2010
My Rating: 2 of 5 stars
Read August 2020

Goodreads Synopsis:
You’ve read the book. You’ve seen the movie. Now submerge yourself in the thrilling, stunning, and action-packed graphic novel.
Mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking out of the pages of twelve-year-old Percy Jackson’s textbooks and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now, he and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.
Series creator Rick Riordan joins forces with some of the biggest names in the comic book industry to tell the story of a boy who must unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Review: Drama

Good evening and happy Friday! I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy!
Today I’m back with a new book review (finally). This is the first book that I’ve been able to get myself through in almost a month, which is the most frustrating thing ever! I don’t think I’ve ever been in such a terrible slump before. I had fun with this graphic novel though!!
I hope you enjoy!! 🙂

Drama by Raina Telgemeier
Genre: Middle Grade / Young Adult – Graphic Novel, Contemporary
Pages: 238
Publication Date: September 2012
My Rating: 2.75 of 5 stars
Read June 2020

Goodreads Synopsis:
PLACES, EVERYONE!
Callie loves theater. And while she would totally try out for her middle school’s production of Moon Over Mississippi, she can’t really sing. Instead she’s the set designer for the drama department stage crew, and this year she’s determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn’t know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together? Not to mention the onstage AND offstage drama that occurs once the actors are chosen. And when two cute brothers enter the picture, things get even crazier!
