ARC Review: If This Gets Out

Hello, hello, my lovely readers!!I hope you’re having a beautiful week! ❤
This morning, I’m bringing you a review of If This Gets Out, a YA story about a romance between two members of a boy band. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from NetGalley, but unfortunately, I did not love it as much as I had hoped I would. The first half of the book was promising, and I was so sure that I was going to adore the story, but it did not go in the direction that I had expected or wanted it to. With that being said, I did enjoy the book as a whole. This book is not published until December, so you still have plenty time to add it to your TBR!!
Happy reading!

If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales & Cale Dietrich
Genre: Young Adult – Contemporary, Romance, LGBTQ+, Music
Pages: 352
Publication Date: December 7, 2021
My Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Read June 2021

Goodreads Synopsis:
Eighteen-year-olds Ruben Montez and Zach Knight are two members of the boy-band Saturday, one of the biggest acts in America. Along with their bandmates, Angel Phan and Jon Braxton, the four are teen heartbreakers in front of the cameras and best friends backstage. But privately, cracks are starting to form: their once-easy rapport is straining under the pressures of fame, and Ruben confides in Zach that he’s feeling smothered by management’s pressure to stay in the closet.
On a whirlwind tour through Europe, with both an unrelenting schedule and minimal supervision, Ruben and Zach come to rely on each other more and more, and their already close friendship evolves into a romance. But when they decide they’re ready to tell their fans and live freely, Zach and Ruben start to truly realize that they will never have the support of their management. How can they hold tight to each other when the whole world seems to want to come between them?
“If This Gets Out is an absolute showstopper! Equal parts edgy and adorable, this bright, joyful book has everything I look for in a queer YA romance.” —Phil Stamper, bestselling author of The Gravity of Us

Review: Midnight Blue

Good afternoon and happy Sunday!! I hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend so far. ❤
Today I’m sharing a quick review of a book that I started reading but had to DNF a couple of months ago.
Happy reading! 😉

Midnight Blue by L. J. Shen
Genre: New Adult – Contemporary, Romance, Music
Pages: 370
Publication Date: January 2018
My Rating: 1 of 5 stars (DNF)
Read June 2020

Goodreads Synopsis:
It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.
From bestselling author L.J. Shen, comes a new, standalone, contemporary romance.

Review: Daisy Jones & The Six

Happy Friday, my lovely readers!
Well, I finally did it. I hopped on the Daisy Jones bandwagon and I have no regrets. This story was amazing, unique, and entirely unforgettable.
I hope you enjoy!!

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Genre: Adult – Historical Fiction, Music
Pages: 355
Publication Date: March 2019
My Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Read June 2020

Goodreads Synopsis:
Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six: The band’s album Aurora came to define the rock ‘n’ roll era of the late seventies, and an entire generation of girls wanted to grow up to be Daisy. But no one knows the reason behind the group’s split on the night of their final concert at Chicago Stadium on July 12, 1979 . . . until now.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ‘n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.
Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.
