Quote Corner #3: Along For The Ride

Good morning! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to your day!
Today’s Quote Corner is starring Sarah Dessen’s Along for the Ride, a sweet and summery contemporary romance.

An ending was an ending. No matter how many pages of sentences and paragraphs of great stories led up to it, it would always have the last word.

It’s still a memory worth having, even if it’s not exactly what you imagined.

I figured the cool thing was that you could keep switching out the picture. Because you don’t want THE BEST OF TIMES to be just one thing, forever. You have to have a lot of the bests of times, each one topping the last. You know?

I would consider myself to be a pretty big fan of Sarah Dessen’s books, not only for the cute romances, interesting plot lines, and unique and well-developed characters, but most importantly for the phenomenal writing style. Every single time I read her work, I fall deeper in love with her writing. In my opinion, it’s a flawless balance between lyrical and realistic, always filled with countless quotes that I rush to record.
Although Along for the Ride is certainly not one of my favourites of her’s, I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading it. I found myself quite surprised by how much I related to the protagonist, Auden. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I’ve identified with a character so strongly. I also feel like I read this book at the perfect time in my life. It takes place the summer before Auden goes off to college, and I read it in the summer, about a month before I began my first semester of university. At that time, both Auden and I were on a quest of sorts to take in every opportunity, and experience everything that we had felt we had missed out on earlier in our lives for various reasons.
My favourite part of the book, however, would have to be the nightly midnight adventures that Auden and Eli went on together. I was, and still am, so insanely jealous that they were able to do that. As a total night owl, I would love nothing more than to do that with someone. I can hardly wait for the time in my life when I’ll be able to go out and do as many mundane tasks as I would please in the middle of the night. I am so in love with the way that the night gives everything an edge of excitement and thrill, but simultaneously has a quality of such serenity and magic. In love it, I love it, I LOVE IT.
