First Lines Fridays #8

Good morning and happy Friday to you all! I hope this week has treated you well. Today I’m back with another First Lines Friday, this time featuring a book from one of my favourite series.
Hope you enjoy! 😉

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words.
What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

My art teacher says that a real artist bleeds for her craft, but he never told us that blood can become your medium, can take on a life of its own and shape your art in vile and gruesome ways. I shove my hair over my shoulder, puncture my forefinger with the sterilized safety pin I had tucked in my pocket, then position the final glass gem on my mosaic and wait. As I press the translucent bead into the wet white plaster, I shudder at the seeping sensation. It’s like a leech at the tip of my finger where I touch the glass, sucking and siphoning my blood to the underside of the gem, forming a pool of deep, velvet red.

And the book is……

Unhinged by A. G. Howard

This is the second book in the incredible Splintered trilogy, which is definitely one of my favourite series! It’s a spectacular, dark and twisted retelling of Alice in Wonderland that I would always highly recommend!
I also still cannot get over how stunning the covers for all of the books in the series are. They are simply gorgeous, not to mention super fitting for the story and unique from any other covers I’ve seen before. They are certainly the type of books that you can judge by the cover!
Since this series. A. G. Howard has written a few other book, which are also retellings. I haven’t read them yet, but I can’t wait to get to (hopefully) them soon!

You can see my review of Splintered (Splintered #1) here.
You can see my review of Ensnared (Splintered #3) here.

Have any of you read this trilogy?
Which book was your favourite? Which cover do you like best?
Did you prefer Jeb or Morpheus? I’m Team Morpheus all the way!
Have you read any of A. G. Howard’s other books?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments down below!

That’s all I’ve got for today. Thanks for hanging with me and hope to see you again soon! Have an awesome day!! 😀
